Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was an exceptional child. This was a very natural characteristic for a girl from Irish origin, and who was nurtured in her early days by talented family members and parents. Maureen was born in Ranelagh - a suburb of Dublin the capital of Ireland on 17 August 1920. Marguerita Lilburn fitzSimons' mother was a contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based company and was the owner of a portion of "The Shamrock Rovers," a renowned Irish soccer squad. Maureen FitzSimons placed second from a family of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off the gorgeous family. Maureen excelled as a sportswoman and participated in rough, competitive sports when she was a young. This naturally-born interest with her ability to perform was impressive. She took home almost all Feis Award for Drama and Theatre Performance that her country had to provide. At age 14she was admitted into the Abbey Theater, where her ambition was to study operatic singing and classical theater.
